Short explanation:

Used as a conjunction to introduce a contrasting idea or exception.

Formation:

Sentence 1 + 不过 + Sentence 2

Examples:

我想去中国旅行,不过我没有足够的钱。
Wǒ xiǎng qù Zhōngguó lǚxíng, búguò wǒ méiyǒu zúgòu de qián.
I would like to travel to China, but I don't have enough money.
他很健康,不过他应该吃得更健康一些。
Tā hěn jiànkāng, búguò tā yīnggāi chī dé gèng jiànkāng yīxiē.
He is very healthy, however, he should eat healthier.
我喜欢这款手机,不过它的价格有点高。
Wǒ xǐhuan zhè kuǎn shǒujī, búguò tā de jiàgé yǒudiǎn gāo.
I like this mobile phone, but its price is a bit high.
今天的天气很好,不过我必须在家里工作。
Jīntiān de tiānqì hěn hǎo, búguò wǒ bìxū zài jiālǐ gōngzuò.
The weather is good today, however, I have to work at home.

Long explanation:

不过 is an adverb in Chinese that's equivalent to 'but' or 'however' in English. It is used to introduce a contrasting point or idea. It essentially makes the sentence that follows it serve as an exception or contrast to the sentence that precedes it.
