Short explanation:

Formation:

虽然 + Statement 1 (contradiction), 但是/可是 + Statement 2 (outcome).

Examples:

虽然今天下雨,但是我们还是决定去公园玩。
Suīrán jīntiān xiàyǔ, dànshì wǒmen háishì juédìng qù gōngyuán wán.
Although it's raining today, we still decided to go to the park to play.
虽然她很聪明,可是她不喜欢读书。
Suīrán tā hěn cōngmíng, kěshì tā bù xǐhuān dúshū.
Although she is very smart, she doesn't like reading.
虽然他工作很辛苦,但是他很喜欢他的工作。
Suīrán tā gōngzuò hěn xīnkǔ, dànshì tā hěn xǐhuān tā de gōngzuò.

虽然这道菜看起来不怎么样,但是味道非常好。
Suīrán zhè dào cài kàn qǐlai bù zěnmeyàng, dànshì wèidào fēicháng hǎo.
